Wednesday evening. Mega Mart in Portmore, Jamaica.

My wife sends me for coconut oil. "The good kind for my hair."

Simple task, right?

Wrong.

I'm standing in the beauty section for 15 minutes looking like a lost tourist. The shelf has 20+ different bottles. Extra virgin this, cold pressed that, organic something else.

I'm reading labels like I'm cramming for a college essay all over again.

This lady walks up. Doesn't even look at the prices. Grabs one bottle. Gone.

She knows something I don't.

I end up calling my wife like a helpless child: "Which one again?"

"The green container that smells like coconut, not chemicals."

Walking to checkout, it hits me.

I just watched real expertise.

But here's where everybody gets this wrong.

You see someone who knows something you don't, and you think: "I should sell what I know too!"

Hold up.

That coconut oil lady has knowledge, yes. But she doesn't have SELLABLE expertise.

Big difference.

Knowing which product to buy isn't the same as knowing why it works, how to fix problems when it doesn't, or how to teach others the whole system.

Real expertise isn't knowing what works. It's knowing what fails, why it fails, and how to prevent those failures for others.

You don't have valuable knowledge because you figured something out once. You have valuable knowledge because you've solved the same problem 50 times and learned all the ways it goes sideways.

Regular knowledge: "I know which internet provider works in my area."

Sellable expertise: "I've helped 20 businesses choose internet providers. I know which ones lie about coverage, which contracts have hidden fees, and how to negotiate better rates."

See the difference?

Your expertise isn't what you know. It's what you know PLUS what you've learned fixing the same problem over and over for different people.

Now here's the secret sauce: the fastest way to turn your expertise into cash is through stories.

Not boring bullet points about what you know. Stories about the moments you learned it.

Then ask: "What stories do I have from those solutions?"
