This is awful advice.

Someone once told me...

“If you want better content ideas, just ask your audience what they want.”

Sounds smart.

Until you actually try it.

You’ll get vague answers like: “More tips.” “Stuff on mindset.” “Something inspiring.”

Helpful? Barely.

That’s like walking into a restaurant and telling the chef, “Surprise me. I just want something good.”

So I stopped asking what people wanted.

And I started asking what they were struggling with.

“What’s been on your mind lately?”

“What’s something you’re secretly frustrated about in your business?”

“What’s a problem you can’t Google your way out of?”

Those questions open the floodgates.

Because people don’t need more content—they need someone who gets them.

And when your content feels like it’s reading their mind?

You win attention. You build trust. You earn the sale.

So next time you feel stuck on what to post, email, or say...

Don’t ask what they want.

Ask what’s keeping them up at night.

Then write to that.

Cheers,

Stephen
