I still can’t believe BBC Radio called me.

Sometimes your words take you places your fear never will.

Hey friend!

True story:

When I was a kid, I used to roam around the house pretending I was a BBC news presenter.

Remote in my hand.
Serious face on.
Standing in front of the fan like it was a broadcast mic.

I’d say, “This is the BBC, it’s 21 hours GMT and here are the headlines,”
like I was speaking to the whole world.

Wild imagination, right?

Fast forward to this Friday…

I sat in front of my laptop on Zoom,
headphones on,
heart beating a little too fast,
and did an actual BBC radio interview.

Not in a fancy studio.
Not under bright lights.
But in my quiet room,
with the soft hum of my ceiling fan in the background.

I didn’t get to quote my childhood line.
But I did get to talk about Jamaica.
About Hurricane Melissa.
About the pieces of home we’re all trying to put back together.

And you know what’s even crazier?

This happened because of the stories I’ve been sharing on LinkedIn and Threads.
The honest ones.
The personal ones.
The ones that feel too small to matter until someone messages you and says,
“Hey, we’d like you on air.”

Roots & Routes Jamaica“Stories of Jamaica’s people, culture, and places told through the roads that connect them and the roots that define them.”

That’s when it hit me.

Sometimes storytelling brings money.
Sometimes it brings reach.
But sometimes…
it brings experiences you never dared to imagine.

Little-me would’ve lost his mind.
Adult-me sat there in the quiet afterward thinking,
“Wow. Words did this.”

Here’s the truth this week left me with:
You never know who’s listening.
You never know which story opens which door.
You never know which version of you you’re honoring by telling the truth.

So here’s your gentle prompt for the week:
Write about the first dream you ever had that still lives inside you.

You don’t need to post it.
You just need to let it breathe.

Till tomorrow
