Write like a human, not a marketer
Hey friend!
There’s a little war going on in my DMs right now.
It started when I said this:
“The best content doesn’t sound like content.”
Some folks cheered. Others pushed back.
“Stephen, what do you mean by that?”
“Are you saying we shouldn’t sound professional?”
“Isn’t marketing supposed to, well… sound like marketing?”
You see,
If your content sounds like content…
If your story sounds like a pitch…
If your post sounds like something written to impress the algorithm
You're already being ignored.
Your audience doesn’t want a marketer.
They want a mirror.
So write like a human.
Not a brochure. Not a brand deck.
Not someone performing for claps and conversions.
Here’s your Monday storytelling tip:
Replace robotic lines with real-life language.
Instead of:
“We help busy entrepreneurs streamline their workflow with efficient tools.”
Try:
“You’ve got 49 tabs open, 3 half-finished tasks, and no idea what’s next. We can help with that.”
One feels like marketing.
The other feels like someone who gets it.
This is the difference between being heard and being scrolled past.
This week, rewrite one piece of content like you’re texting it to your smartest friend.
Then hit reply and tell me which version felt better to you.
I'll share my favorite next week.
Talk soon,
Stephen
How 2-Person Agencies Handle 200+ Clients (With Their Sanity Intact)
Let's address the elephant in your Slack channels:
That polite “looks good” email? It carries the silent scream of:
“Who hired these clowns?”
Fact: Your clients aren't stupid.
You know they smell fake expertise from three screens away.
As a smart agency owner yourself, you refuse to pretend to be an industry expert for everything. Instead, you extract clients' actual genius.
But until now the processes for “genius-extraction” relied on a complex, time-consuming setup. And expensive employees.
With Pressmaster one white-labeled conversation link transforms their brain dump into weeks of authentic thought leadership that makes them say:
“Holy sh*t, this sounds more like me than I do.”
And with another click distribution sparking high engagement on all platforms is solved as well.
Without pulling all-nighters. Or burning out your team. Bold promise. We know.
