7 Deadly Mistakes That Make Your Audience Ignore Your Posts
I made them too
friend!
So, I got a DM the other day.
“Stephen, I post every day, but nobody cares. What am I doing wrong?”
I took one look at their content and saw the problem immediately.
They were making at least three of the seven deadly mistakes that make people scroll past your posts without a second thought.
And if your content isn’t landing, odds are, you’re making one (or all) of these too.
Mistake #1: You Write Like a Boring Professor
You ever read a post that feels like a corporate memo? Yeah. Nobody wants that.
If your content sounds stiff, robotic, or like an AI spat it out, people won’t connect with it. Write how you talk.
FYI: Before I go to mistake #2, these also apply to video content, reels, Tiktok or Linkedin videos.
Now, lets carry on!!
Mistake #2: You Make It All About You
Your audience doesn’t wake up in the morning thinking about you.
They’re thinking about their own problems. If your content reads like a personal diary instead of something that helps them, they’ll keep scrolling.
Mistake #3: Your Hook is Weak
People give you three seconds to grab their attention.
If your first line isn’t interesting, surprising, or making them feel something… you’ve already lost them.
Mistake #4: You’re Trying to Sound Smart
Big words don’t make you look intelligent.
They make you unreadable.
Simple beats complex. Always.
Write at the grade 5 level 😂. I’m laughing, but I’m dead serious 🧐
Mistake #5: Your Content Feels Like a Dead End
If someone reads your post and thinks, Cool story, but so what?, that’s a problem.
Every post needs a point. A lesson, a shift in thinking, an action step. Something that sticks.
Mistake #6: You Sound Like Everyone Else
No personality. No voice. Just another generic post that could’ve been written by anyone.
People follow people, not robots. Give your content some life.
Mistake #7: No Call to Action
Want people to comment, DM you, or buy your thing?
Then tell them. Don’t just assume they’ll magically know what to do next.
And if you want your content to do more than just exist online… I put together something to help.
Inside my guide, Love, Learn, Live Storytelling, you’ll get my best storytelling strategies to make your audience pay attention, trust you, and buy.
It comes out this week!
